Summer Postage Sale?

Thanks to Direct! for this breaking story…

The U.S. Postal Service has offered more details on its proposed summer postage rollback — including who is eligible and how discounts will be calculated — according to the Direct Marketing Association.

While the plans have not yet been approved by the Postal Service’s Board of Governors, as it stands now, the sale will run from July 1 through Sept. 30 of this year. Mailers who dropped more than a million Standard letters and/or flats between Oct. 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008 are eligible to participate in the sale. A statement from the DMA put that at roughly 3,250 mailers, who accounted for 75% of Standard Mail volume.

Mailers will receive a rebate of 30% on any mail volume during the sale period which is over a threshold based on their Oct. 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008 volume.

That’s nice, but what about the organizations, both business and non-profit alike, that mail smaller volumes? No discounts for them. It’s no different than cutting taxes for the rich only, leaving the middle-class and poor (organizations) to carry the financial burden.
It may be time for mailers to revolt! Man the barricades.
