The 46th International Conference on Fundraising was held last week in New Orleans. Here’s what they reported:

Less than half of charities raised more money in 2008 than in 2007. Even more significantly, fundraising gains dropped significantly across the board.

Those are the facts. The question now is, how does the nonprofit world respond?

Put more creative effort into your outer envelope.

It’s true. Fewer people are opening envelopes these days. One response may be to just give up. But there is a far more effective solution. Exert a bit more effort and separate yourself from the pack.

Get your prospect’s attention from the moment they pick up the envelope. Ensure that your letter gets read!
