Know Thyself (Israel Independence Day)

We didn’t get the newspaper today. It wasn’t a mistake – today is Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel’s 61st birthday.

So as I ate my Honey Nut Cheerios this morning, I had to read yesterday’s edition of Haaretz, one of Israel’s English papers. Major letdown. It was filled with opinion pieces in honor of Independence Day. Even bigger letdown.  Nothing against Independence Day, of course. I just hate opinion pieces!
I’m not interested in the politics here, just the message that we can learn from it. To quote from Nadav Shragai:
“The demand that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made of the Palestinians – to recognize Israel as a Jewish State – is as justified as can be, but it should first be addressed inward to ourselves, the people for whom the state is taken for granted.
If there is any chance the Arabs of Israel…will one day recognize that our presence here is a continuing presence…it lies in our ability to recognize that first. “
Politics aside, I gleaned a very valuable lesson here: External awareness ultimately stems from self awareness.
How can others know who you are if you don’t even know?
I challenge you to keep this in mind next time you promote your business through your various marketing activities.
