It seems to be the “in” thing these days say that direct mail is dying, technology is taking over and no one will ever want or need to open their mail box to get what we now know as a letter.

Seth Godin has said it, and I’ve even heard a quote from Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer where he predicts that in another ten years or so there will be no mail at all, just email!

Q: Is direct mail in fact dying?

A: No. Direct mail is not going anywhere. Changing, yes, but disappearing, no.

We blogged about this very subject back in February in a post entitled “Is Direct Mail Dead?”.

Today I found another nice post about the same subject on a super fundraising blog that we follow and quote regularly called “Donor Power Blog”.

Here is link to the post called “Direct mail: not dead, doesn’t want to go on the cart”

What are your predictions for the future of fundraising? Let’s hear what you think in the comments area.

My own two cents…

Even though I love the web and the ease of donating online, I also love the human touch of a letter, the feel of the paper, the excitement and anticipation of opening the letter. I value the time and effort that went into writing it and all the work that went onto getting that letter to me.

That’s just me, we would love to hear what you think as well.
