Sometimes you find a non-profit that’s mission is so simple, focused and effective, you wonder why you didn’t think it up yourself.
And so we present Table to Table: an Israeli group that started operations only a few years ago. It was founded by a new immigrant on one simple premise: to rescue excess food that would otherwise be destroyed and redirect it to people in need.
Volunteers go to Kibbutzim and Moshavim to pick food from the fields that was not harvested. They collect excess food from caterers, retaurants even from IDF mess kitchens.
Five years later, Table to Table has become Israel’s umbrella organization for donations of surplus food, distributing over 50 tons of food per week to over 100 soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior citizen centers and other social service organizations around Israel.
Every dollar donated to Table to Table puts five dollars of food on someone’s table.
