Do Jews in America tend to give to Jewish causes before they give to secular ones?

Not exactly says a recent report on Mega Gifts by the Institute for Jewish and Community Research.

This research brings up an important question: If Jews don’t give to Jewish Causes first then who will?

Here’s what the study found…

“How many of the mega gifts of $10 million or more go to Jewish causes? And where do the rest go?

These issues were summarized in a recent report sponsored by The Institute for Jewish & Community Research: Mega-Gifts in Jewish Philanthropy: Giving Patterns 2001-2003.

This report analyzed more than 1,000 gifts of $1 million or more that totaled $7 billion of giving. For gifts of $1 million or more, 9% of the dollars went to Jewish causes. For gifts of $10 million or more, 5% went to Jewish causes. Jews give 16% of all mega gift dollars in America.”
