Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg makes 2013’s top donation with a gift of 18 million shares of Facebook stock to the
Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The gift was valued at more than $990 million.
2013 was also the very first year the top gift in the nation was made by someone under 30 years of age.
Nike’s Phil Knight also gave a $500 million donation to the Oregon Health and Sciences University for cancer research for spot #2. That gift is conditional on the University coming up with matching funds.
