“For whoever listens to a witness becomes a witness”

Excerpt from a speech given by Elie Wiesel at Yad Vashem

Today is Yom Ha’Shoah – the day of the remembrance for the 6,000,000 Jews who died during the holocaust.

I would like to make Yad Vashem our featured cause today in memory of the 6 million who died during the holocaust.

My family was personally touched by this tragedy. My Dad, my Grandfather and my Grandmother were Dutch Jews living in Holland when the Germans invaded and were all forced into hiding during the war.
My family was separated and hidden by two different righteous gentile Dutch family’s. Miraculously, they all survived the war and were reunited post-war.
My dad was 4 or 5 at the time and I cannot even begin to imagine the stress and trauma he and his parents went through as an effect of living being hidden during the war and even just living through those terrible times.
My wife’s Grandmother was in a camp in Poland and is a survivor as well.
They were some of the lucky ones however as there were many Jewish family’s who were not so fortunate.
The following is a from a video project that Yad Vashem has put together to remember and document the stories of those who perished and those survived the Holocaust.
This particular video is of a Dutch survivor who recalls his story and how he went on to demonstrate against the release of Nazi war criminals in Holland.
